Gareth Smit – Life Care Planner

B.Sc. (Kin), R. Kin, RRP, CCLCP

Gareth Smit has been employed as a Life Care Planner at Rehab First since 2010. He is a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP), a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), a Registered Kinesiologist (R.Kin), and a Professional Member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA). He is a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP), the International Academy of Life Care Planners (IALCP), and the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Ontario. Mr. Smit completed the Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP) program through the University of Florida and received his CCLCP designation through the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC) in the United States. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Waterloo (B.Sc. Kinesiology).

Mr. Smit’s work at Rehab First includes the preparation of future care cost reports/life care plans for plaintiff and defense counsel. These reports and plans outline the needs of adult and paediatric clients who have sustained brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic amputations, orthopaedic injuries, and who are disabled as a result of chronic pain and other physical and psychological impairments as a result of motor vehicle collisions, slip and fall incidents, and medical malpractice. He has authored or co-authored over 150 such plans during his tenure at Rehab First. Gareth has over 20 years experience providing rehabilitation services to people with disabilities. His work experience also includes the development and implementation of labour market re-entry and return-to-school plans, therapeutic exercise programs, as well as the completion of ergonomic assessments, functional ability evaluations, and physical demands analyses.

Dr. Heather Orenstein-Frankel – Occupational Therapist, Chiropractor, and Life Care Planner

B.Sc. OT, OT Reg. (Ont.), D.C., CCLCP

Dr. Heather Orenstein-Frankel is an Occupational Therapist and a Chiropractor who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from McGill University and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She is also a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP), completing the CCLCP program through the University of Florida and receiving her certification through the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC) in the United States. Dr. Orenstein-Frankel is a member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, the Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association, the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists, and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

Dr. Orenstein-Frankel has been employed with Rehab First since 2012. Her primary focus at Rehab First is the preparation of future care cost reports/life care plans for plaintiff and defense counsel. These reports and plans outline the needs of adult and paediatric clients who have sustained brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic amputations, orthopaedic injuries and who are disabled as a result of chronic pain and other physical and psychological impairments as a result of motor vehicle collisions, slip and fall incidents, and medical malpractice. She has authored or co-authored over 100 FCCs/LCPs during her tenure at Rehab First. She has experience peer mentoring other rehabilitation professionals pursuing life care planning certification. She is skilled in the assessment, intervention, and evaluation of clients within the occupational performance areas of self-care, child care, housekeeping, vocation, and leisure. She has designed and implemented treatment for patients while managing a rehabilitation centre. Her scope of practice includes assessment and treatment recommendation related to orthopaedic and musculoskeletal function, recommendation of mobility and assistive devices, and quantification of attendant care needs.

 

James Campbell – President & Director of Rehabilitation Services

Registered Psychotherapist, M.Ed., MBA, CCRC, RRP, CCLCP, CVRP(F)

James Campbell is a co-founder of Rehab First and maintains active practice in Psychotherapy, Case Management and Life Care Planning for Rehab First's most complex cases.

Jamie’s areas of specialization include vocational, educational and personal counselling and he has worked with varied client populations including children, adolescents and adults; people with brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, chronic pain, mental illness, addiction, learning disability and many other types of injury or illness.

James holds Master of Education degrees in Educational Psychology and Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, where he also earned his Master of Business Administration degree. He holds the Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor Certification (CCRC), Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) designations and is a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP). Jamie is also an active member of the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (CARP) and is a recognized authority on rehabilitation best practices.

 

Joanne Gram – Vice President Rehabilitation Services

M.Ed. (CRDS), OCT, RRP, CCRC, CCLCP, MCVP, CVRP(F)

Joanne Gram is a co-founder of Rehab First, and Vice President of Rehabilitation Services. She has been providing case management, vocational rehabilitation, employability assessments and future care cost services to the legal, government and insurance industries since 1981. For 16 years, she was the Vice President of Operations at Associative Rehabilitation Inc., a disability management firm that provided various rehabilitation and medical services across Canada and the United States. During this time, in addition to direct file work, she was responsible for supervising the professional staff and ensuring quality standards were met. Subsequently, Ms. Gram was employed as Vice President of Public Relations at Aetna Health Management, a subsidiary of Aetna Canada.

Ms. Gram is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) registered with both the Ontario College of Teachers, and the College of Vocational Professionals. She graduated with a Master of Education in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary. She has taken additional training seminars and graduate level courses, as well as presented on adult and pediatric traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, special education, case management, rehabilitation and counselling. Ms. Gram holds a number of professional certifications which designate her as a Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor (CCRC), a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP). She also holds a Master’s Certificate as a Vocational Professional (MCVP).
   

Jordan Roovers – Life Care Planner and Director, Loss Analytics and Litigation Support

B.Sc. (Kin), R.Kin, MBA, CCLCP

Jordan Roovers is a Life Care Planner and is the Director of Loss Analytics & Litigation Support at Rehab First. He has been employed with Rehab First Inc. since 2003. He is a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP), a Registered Kinesiologist (R.Kin), and a Professional Member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA). He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Waterloo (B.Sc. Kinesiology – Cooperative Program). The focus of his studies and work terms was in occupational biomechanics and workplace ergonomics. He has also completed a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Athabasca University. He is a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP), including the International Academy of Life Care Planners (IALCP) and the Rehabilitation and Disability Case Management sections of IARP respectively. Mr. Roovers completed his Canadian Certified Life Care Planning program through the Canadian Institute of Life Care Planners in conjunction with the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University.

Mr. Roovers has been recognized by the Ontario Superior Court as an expert in future care costs/life care planning and he has testified on behalf of both plaintiff and defense counsel. Mr. Roovers oversees the practice of all life care planners and other tort assessment services at Rehab First. His personal practice includes the preparation of future care cost reports/life care plans outlining the needs of adult and paediatric clients who have sustained brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic amputations, orthopaedic injuries and who are disabled as a result of chronic pain and other physical and psychological impairments as a result of motor vehicle collisions, slip and fall incidents, and medical malpractice. He also supervises and mentors a team of Canadian Certified Life Care Planners and tort assessors with backgrounds in occupational therapy, chiropractic, case management, nursing, and kinesiology. He has authored or co-authored over 400 future care cost/life care plans during his tenure at Rehab First. He has experience providing vocational and educational rehabilitation services, disability/rehabilitation case management, and employability assessments.

Josh Campbell - Occupational Therapist and Employability Assessor

M.Sc. OT, OT Reg. (Ont.), CCLCP

Josh Campbell has been qualified as an expert witness at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in the areas of occupational therapy, employability/vocational assessment, and vocational counselling; he has testified on behalf of both plaintiff and defense counsel in this regard for adult and paediatric populations. He has been employed at Rehab First since 2009.

Mr. Campbell completed his undergraduate education in kinesiology and his Master of Occupational Therapy Degree at the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Campbell is a registered occupational therapist in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. He is also a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner (CCLCP), completing the CCLCP program through the University of Florida and receiving his certification through the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC) in the United States.

Mr. Campbell’s primary practice involves completing employability assessments, loss of earnings capacity assessments, worksite assessments, job demands analyses, return to work planning, work hardening programs, and job retraining, both for tort and accident benefits purposes. Mr. Campbell also completes future care cost reports/life care plans. Mr. Campbell’s occupational therapy scope of practice includes assessment and treatment related to physical, affective, and cognitive function, adaptive behaviour, recommendation of assistive devices, and rehabilitation and maintenance within the areas of self-care/attendant care, child care, productivity, and leisure. Mr. Campbell is also clinically trained to practice acupuncture.
