Andrew Deryck - Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, B.A. Kin (Honours), R.Kin

Andrew Deryck graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Specialization in Kinesiology with a focus on sport injury and exercise physiology. He is also a certified personal trainer and a certified kinesiologist through the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA). Andrew has also completed Level 1 Training through the Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA).


Andrew has clinical experience working with varied populations, and has expertise in one-on-one and group fitness sessions and hydrotherapy, as well as rehabilitation for soft tissue injuries and nerve damage. At Rehab First Andrew works with clients to construct and implement rehabilitation programs and is involved in rehab education. He works out of our London office.


Andrew Montecastro - Rehabilitation Therapist

R. Kin, SSC, FMT, FAKTR

Andrew Montecastro completed his Bachelors of Science Degree in Sports Science from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and continued his education by successfully completing and passing the Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through International Sports Science Association and Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab through MSK-Plus. He is registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and team Kinesiologist for a professional lacrosse team.

 

Andrew is a rehabilitation therapist who has extensive experiences working with individuals with catastrophic impairments such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cords injuries and chronic pain. Andrew’s scope of practice includes strength and conditioning, exercise program assessment and planning, gait training, exercise prescription, ergonomic and biomechanic approaches, activities of daily living, assistive devices education and implementation, community reintegration, cognitive and behavioural reactivation, adjustment to injury, educational assistance and hydrotherapy.

Andrew lives in Hamilton, Ontario and is dedicated to servicing the needs of clientele in the West GTA area.

 

Angela Calvert - Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, B.Sc.Kin

Angela Calvert is a Rehabilitation Therapist for Rehab First. She completed her Bachelors of Science Degree in Honours Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo where she specialized in Biomechanics. She is also a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. Angela has experience performing functional abilities evaluations, ergonomic evaluations, physical demands analysis, post-offer employment testing, work hardening programs, in home assessments, and developing exercise rehabilitation programs.


As a Rehab Therapist at Rehab First, Angela works one-on-one with clients providing both cognitive and physical rehabilitation therapy in clinical and community settings. She also has expertise in hydrotherapy and teaching job safe practices and safe lifting mechanics. Angela provides services within the Greater Toronto Area and the Barrie Area.


Cassandra Sossi - Rehabilitation Therapist & CDA

B.A. (Honours), CDA Reg. CDAAC

Cassandra Sossi graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English Language and Literature. Following her graduation from the University of Western Ontario, Cassandra attended Lambton College where she obtained a Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate with Dean’s List designation. Cassandra is a registered member of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC).


Cassandra has experience providing speech, language, and social skill intervention to children of varying ages and populations. She also has experience using assistive devices and technology to facilitate and improve communication in both children and adults. Her experience in augmentative and alternative communication is further complemented by her completion of American Sign Language interpretive signing coursework at Fanshawe College in partnership with the Canadian Hearing Society.


At Rehab First Inc., Cassandra acts as a rehabilitation therapist and provides cognitive communication based rehabilitation in London and surrounding areas. Her clinical focus is on improving client participation and success in activities of daily living through memory retraining, educational assistance provision, compensatory strategy strengthening, and functional communicative engagement.


Christi Zruna – Manager, Account Management Group & Rehabilitation Consultant

B.H.K., (Honours)

Dedicated to the needs of clients who reside in the Hamilton/Niagara region, Christi brings a wealth of experience in both clinical and disability management services to Rehab First. Her casework encompasses short and long term disability claims, injuries sustained from motor vehicle collisions and chronic pain.


Christi’s areas of expertise include wellness and exercise programming, vocational rehabilitation, case management services, housekeeping and home maintenance assessments, ergonomic and job site analyses and functional abilities evaluations. An Honours Kinesiology graduate of the University of Windsor, she is a long standing Certified Kinesiologist with the Ontario Kinesiology Association.

 

Daniel Blaxall - Rehabilitation Therapist & CDA

B.A., CDA Reg. CDAAC

Daniel obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Waterloo. He has received a graduate certificate from the Communicative Disorders Assistant program at Lambton College where he earned the Dean’s Award for highest academic standing in his program. He is a registered member of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC).


Daniel has worked with populations of all ages from toddlerhood to senescence. He has worked in both private speech-language pathology and audiology settings and has served clients of all levels of ability.


At Rehab First Inc., Daniel acts as a rehabilitation therapist and provides cognitive based rehabilitation in London and surrounding areas. His clinical focus is on improving client participation and success in activities of daily living through educational assistance, compensatory strategy strengthening, and functional communicative engagement.

 

Giancarlo Furgiuele – Rehabilitation Therapist

R. Kin, (Honours) B.A. Kin

Giancarlo Furgiuele graduated from Brock University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology in 2012, and later graduated from Niagara College with an Exercise Science for Health and Performance certificate in 2014. Giancarlo is a registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and a professional member with the Ontario Kinesiology Association.

Giancarlo has had experience in program design as well as worked with clients in a wide variety of settings including, long term health care, physiotherapy clinics, inpatient/outpatient facilities and fitness centres. Giancarlo has aided clients by developing and implementing treatment plans, assisting with activities of daily living, work hardening, hydrotherapy and gym programs. Giancarlo provides physical and cognitive rehabilitation therapy to clients in the London and surrounding areas who have suffered injury or disability as a result of motor-vehicle collisions with the goal of helping clients reach their maximum functional potential.


Jennifer Bruin - Rehabilitation Therapist

Jennifer Bruin is a Registered Kinesiologist who obtained her Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Honors Movement Science) from the University of Windsor. Jennifer is a member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association. She has previous experience working in long term care facilities. Jennifer has joined the Windsor team of Rehab First Inc.

 

Jennifer Pollock

Jennifer Pollock graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics in 2006. Jennifer is a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and a professional member with the Ontario Kinesiology Association. Jennifer has also completed Level 1 Training through the Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA).

Kara Grills - Rehabilitation Therapist

Kara graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts Honors Specialization Kinesiology and Major Psychology. Kara is a registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and a professional member with the Ontario Kinesiology Association.


Kara has extensive experience working with clients from varying populations and in various therapeutic environments including: long term health care facilities/retirement homes, physiotherapy clinics, fitness centres, and chronic pain clinics. Kara has experience in: developing and implementing exercise programs for individuals with a variety of cognitive and physical abilities, therapeutic taping, proper therapeutic modality use, developing and implementing work hardening programs, and developing programs to treat lower back and neck pain. As a Rehabilitation Therapist with Rehab First Inc., Kara provides physical and cognitive rehabilitation therapy to clients in London and the surrounding areas who have suffered injury or disability as a result of motor-vehicle collisions, workplace accidents or illness.

 

Katherine Nadon - Rehabilitation Therapist

R. Kin, PTS, M.Sc. Kin, B.Sc. Kin

Katherine Nandon is a Registered Kinesiologist who obtained her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Laurentian University in Sudbury. She also completed the Athletic Therapy Certificate while completing her Masters of Science in Kinesiology from York University. She has previous experience working in long term care, as well as family health team settings. Katherine has experience working with all age groups but has a special interest with the older adult population.


Katherine VanderGaag - Senior Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, OTA & PTA, B.A. Kin (Honours)

Katherine Vander Gaag completed her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Honours Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and continued her education by attending the Mohawk College Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program, in which she completed 600 practical placement hours. She continues to be active member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association and is registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.


Katherine is a Senior rehabilitation therapist at Rehab First Inc., who has extensive experiences working with individuals with catastrophic impairments such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cords injuries, amputations and chronic pain. Katherine’s scope of practice includes developing and implementing exercise programs for individuals with physical disabilities, mental illnesses and neurological disorders, exercise program assessment and planning, ambulation and gait training, exercise prescription, ergonomic approaches, activities of daily living, assistive devices education and implementation, community reintegration, cognitive and behavioural reactivation, adjustment to injury, educational assistance, hydrotherapy and therapeutic horseback riding.


Katherine lives in Brantford, Ontario and is dedicated to servicing the needs of clientele in the Central Ontario region in addition to the London area.

 

Michael McCuaig - Rehabilitation Therapist 

R. Kin., SCEP - CEP, B.Sc.Kin (Honours)

Michael McCuaig graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelors of Science degree with honours in Human Kinetics. From here he attended Niagara College where he completed a post-graduate certificate in Exercise Science for Health and Performance. Additionally, he is a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and a
CSEP-Certified Exercise Physiologist.

 

Previously, Mike has had experience in long-term care, private rehab, and strength and conditioning settings. He has expertise in private and group fitness, injury rehab, advanced exercise assessment and prescription, lifestyle counseling, and falls prevention. Mike provides rehabilitation therapy services for Rehab First in the downtown Greater Toronto Area.

 

Mitra Shafaei, Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, M.Sc

Mitra is a Rehabilitation Therapist at Rehab First, serving the GTA. She holds a Bachelor of Science program in physical education at the Azad University of Iran, Central Tehran and Masters of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo, with specialization in Biomechanics. Mitra has been registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario since 2013 and a professional member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association since 2006. Mitra is experienced in performing Functional Capacity Evaluations, design and delivery of work conditioning and work hardening programs, functional assessments, as well as developing therapeutic and rehabilitation exercise programs. She is also experienced at offering Post-Offer Employment Testing (POET) assessments, job coaching, hydrotherapy and education on body mechanics. Mitra is a Cancer Exercise Specialist.

 

As a Rehab Therapist at Rehab First, Mitra works one-on-one with clients providing both cognitive and physical rehabilitation therapy in clinical and community settings. She has experience working with a variety of populations including those who have sustained traumatic brain injuries, as well as geriatric populations with conditions such as stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, and Parkinson’s. Mitra is bi-lingual, fluent in English and Persian/ Farsi.

 

Nicole Clarke - Senior Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, B.Kin

Nicole graduated from Brock University in 2005 with a degree in Kinesiology. Since graduating, she has been working as a rehabilitation professional providing therapeutic exercise and is a Senior Rehabilitation Therapist at Rehab First.


Nicole’s priorities at Rehab First are to provide job coaching, educational assistance, social re-integration, therapeutic exercise programs and therapeutic pool programs to meet client goals. Nicole is a member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association and is trained in soft tissue release therapy, advanced exercise prescription for neck, upper and lower extremities, as well as neuroproprioceptive taping techniques for acute and chronic pain. Nicole successfully completed the Ontario Brain Injury Association Level One certification and is also certified in Aquatic Rehabilitation and Aqua Arthritis through the Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance. Nicole has also received training in myofascial release of the lower quadrants. Nicole is fluent in French.


Spencer Joyce

Spencer Joyce completed his Honours Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Kinetics with a minor in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences from the University of Guelph. Spencer continued his education and completed an online Certificate in Integrated Disability Management from the University of Fredericton. He is an active member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association and is registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.


Spencer is a Rehabilitation Therapist at Rehab First Inc. servicing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding area. His clinical background has provided him with experience from an orthopaedic physiotherapy setting as well as a muscle therapy rehabilitation setting. As a registered Kinesiologist he has been committed to improving the quality of life for his clients by promoting physical activity as a means for preventing and treating injuries and chronic disease. In his practice he has had the opportunity to build strong relationships with various clients. These clients range from athletes to individuals recovering from minor and major accidents, senior citizens, youth, or those looking to improve their functional fitness. Working with individuals who have suffered from post-concussion syndrome has given Spencer much gratitude by helping them manage their symptoms as well as their lifestyles. He has designed and supervised outcome-specific exercise programs and conducted functional testing and conditioning on an isokinetic/isometric machine. Spencer’s work history has included providing athletic taping, modalities and trigger-point release to support his clients’ rehabilitation programs.

 

Sufyan Saikh - Rehabilitation Therapist

R.Kin, CEP

Sufyan is a Registered Kinesiologist, Certified Exercise Physiologist, and Personal Trainer with experience in Active Rehabilitation, Healthy Lifestyle Management, Nutrition and Personal Training. He has attained his Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics and graduated from the Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management diploma program at Humber College, where he developed a comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation, work hardening, functional abilities evaluations, as well as creating and implementing exercise programs. Sufyan has experience working in a private clinic, on sports teams, in a retirement and long term care home, as a physical education teacher, and at fitness facilities. He has experience building exercise programs for orthopaedic, metabolic, cardiovascular and cognitive injuries/illnesses. Sufyan will be providing rehabilitation therapy services at Rehab First within the GTA and Durham Region.
